What is Grammar?

Grammar is the set of rules we must follow whenever we write something!

Grammar is very important for helping you clearly explain what you're trying to say!

It can have huge impacts on your writing by changing things like the tone and meaning of your words.

Punctuation

Punctuation are the little marks and symbols that you can use in your writing for different purposes.

Look below to see common punctuation and their meanings!

Period.

This punctuation goes at the end of your sentence in order to stop statements.

Ex. I like cats and dogs

Question Mark?

This punctuation goes at the end of your sentence in order to stop a question.

Ex. Do you like cats and dogs?

Exclamation Mark!

This punctuation goes at the end of your sentence in order to express excitement or anger.

Ex. I really love cats and dogs!

"Quotation Marks"

This punctuation shows dialogue (talking) between characters.

Ex. Mark said, "I like dogs. What about you?"

Comma,

This punctuation helps put pauses into your writing. It can be used to separate descriptions or divide sentences by clauses. These are also where you would naturally pause if you were to read the sentence aloud.

Ex. I love cats, dogs, and fish.

Colon:

This punctuation is used mostly for lists, examples, etc.

Ex. I went to the store and bought a bunch of fruit: peaches, bananas, watermelons, and grapes.
