Order of Operations and Whole Numbers

Unit 1

Practice Post!

Try out these practice problems to review Unit 1!

Question 1: Add 8 and 7, then multiply by 2

(8 + 7) x 2. We first have to add 8 and 7 and then multiply by 2, but addition comes after multiplication in order of operations (remember PEMDAS?), so we must put 8 + 7 in parentheses to show that we solve that step first. 15 x 2 = 30

Question 2: Describe how the expression 7(10 x 10) relates to 10 x 10.

The expression 7(10 x 10) is 7 times larger than the expression 10 x 10 since I know that I that 7(10 x 10) means that I have 7 groups of (10 x 10).

Question 3: What is 187 x 54?

It is 10098! The work for this is shown at the bottom of the page, only look at it to check your answer!
