Customs and Holidays

America

We live in the USA, a place where all people, no matter where they are from, should be loved. But, it's our job to love all!

Customs

We have a lot of customs, or things we do and know as part of being American!

Flags

This is the American flag! It's red, white, and blue, with stars and stripes!

This is the flag of Georgia. We have our own flag too!

National Anthem

Listen to this! This is "The Star-Spangled Banner", and it is our national anthem, or song! Don't you sing it before sports games?

Pledge of Allegiance

This is the "Pledge of Allegiance". We say it to respect our country.

The Bald Eagle

The bald eagle is America's bird.

The Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty in New York City stands for freedom and hope!

Holidays

A holiday is a special day! We should remember what they mean. Every holiday has a different meaning.

New Year's Day

On January 1st, we celebrate the first day of the new year!

Martin Luther King Jr. Day

On January 20th, we remember Martin Luther King Jr., who fought for all people to be treated the same! It doesn't matter what color you are - we are equal!

President's Day

On February 17th, we remember two past presidents: George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

George Washington

George Washington was the first (1st) President of the United States, and he fought for our independence.

Washington Monument

This is the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C., and it was made to remember George Washington.

Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States, and he fought to end slavery, so all people could be free.

Lincoln Memorial

This is the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., and it was made to remember Abraham Lincoln.

Donald Trump

Donald Trump is the President of the United States right now. In November, we will find out who is the next president.

The White House

The White House in Washington, D.C. is where the president lives.

Memorial Day

On May 25th, we remember all of the men and women who died for our country.

Independence Day

On July 4th, America got freedom from the British.

Labor Day

On September 7th, we celebrate American workers.

Columbus Day

Long ago, a man named Christopher Columbus got to America. October 12th is called Columbus Day to remember this day. But, we must remember that he was not the first to come to America, and he was a very mean person. We do not celebrate him.

Veteran's Day

On November 11th, we celebrate people who have fought for our country.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is November 26th, and it is to remember we should be thankful for what we have.

Christmas

On December 25th, Christians celebrate the day Jesus was born.

We live in a free country where people of all colors, shapes, and sizes are welcome! We all look different and that's what makes us special. We do not all celebrate the same holidays, but we love each other.
