Jobs and Money

Unit 4

Jobs

Does your mom or dad go to work? Do you know someone who has a job? There are many different jobs people can have when they grow up.

Firefighters put out fires and save people.

Teachers help people to learn.

Doctors help people who are sick or hurt get better.

Mail carriers bring mail to your house.

Soldiers are in the army and fight for our country.

Dentists clean and take care of your teeth.

Construction workers help build things.

Engineers solve problems and help create new things.

You can have a job at school too! Play this game to practice all of the classroom jobs.

But... why do they have jobs?

Adults have jobs for many reasons. They might love doing what they do! The biggest reason, though, is to make money. When you have a job, you get money for doing it. Why do we need money?

Money

Adults get money in dollars and coins. This money is used to buy things or pay for help with something. People work to make money to take care of their families and make the world a better place.

If you make money, that does not mean you can buy everything. You must make smart choices, and buy only what you need. Some things cost more than others, and using all of your money can get you in trouble.

Yay!

You finished Kindergarten Social Studies! Good job! I'm so proud of you.
