Unit 1

What are Context Clues?

Context Clues are pieces of information in a sentence or hints that tell you the meaning of a certain word. Utilizing context clues in order to understand the meaning of new words is very important in growing as a new reader.

For example, you may need to use context clues in a sentence like, "The football team was exhilarated when they learned that they won the finals." In this context, the word "exhilerated" describes how the team felt when they won the finals. So, we can infer that exhilarated means to be happy and excited.
